On the Issues

National Security

In today’s world we can’t rely solely on military might. Strong diplomatic efforts and effective intelligence policies are just as critical as a strong military.

In order to truly secure America, we need a comprehensive plan that will win the war on terror, strengthen our homeland security, and end the war in Iraq as soon as possible while protecting our troops and honoring the sacrifices made by them and their families.

Fighting for Universal Health Care

50 million Americans lack health insurance and many more are underinsured. This is a moral outrage. No one should have to choose between their health and heating their home or putting food on the table. Quality, accessible health care coverage should be available, reliable and affordable for everyone.

Julien’s life journey has given him a first-hand understanding of the difficulties that families are facing with inadequate health care and skyrocketing costs. We need a health care system that makes sense and puts the wellbeing of patients first by putting them in control - not the insurance and drug companies.

Serving Our Veterans

America's men and women in uniform bravely serve and protect our country, while asking nothing in return. We have a duty to provide for our service members and their families while they serve; a responsibility to help veterans returning from combat readjust to civilian life; and an obligation to honor those who gave their lives for our country.

As the President and CEO of The JMA Foundation, Inc./Brain Trauma Recovery and Policy Institute, Julien has worked to provide a voice for our veterans and advocate for stronger governmental policies on VA health care. In the wake of the Iraq war and the Walter Reed Medical Center scandal, he organized a national town hall meeting addressing inadequacies of the VA health care system. As a result, the Department of Defense established The Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury to ensure veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have their health care needs fully addressed.

Taking care of our military families is not only the right thing to do, but it also strengthens our community, our state and our nation.

Stronger Economy and Jobs

We are currently facing the largest deficit in America's history which is getting worse by the day with runaway spending and fiscal irresponsibility. On the verge of a recession it is more critical now than ever to set clear priorities and adhere to strict fiscal discipline.

By stopping excessive earmarks and outrageous “pork barrel” spending we can balance the budget, pay down the national debt and meet our needs and obligations – both today and tomorrow.

Protecting the Environment

We must take the necessary steps to protecting our environment and natural resources. By pursuing alternative energy solutions - such as wind, solar and geothermal energy – we can gain energy independence and reduce America’s dependency on foreign oil while protecting our environment and our state’s natural beauty.

Embracing the use of renewable energy sources and “Green” initiatives will also grow our economy by creating good paying jobs for American workers and decrease the energy costs on families across Virginia.

Improving Transportation

Some of the worst traffic congestion in our nation can be seen throughout Virginia. Living and working in Northern Virginia, Julien understands that improving out transportation system and reducing gridlock is of critical importance. Congestion and gridlock not only harms our economy by creating thousands of hours of wasted time and lost productivity, but also strips us of precious time we could be spending with our families and friends.

In order to solve our transportation problems, we need to address them head on with a comprehensive plan that makes better land-use decisions, creates new transit services, expands public transit and promotes telecommuting.

Immigration Reform

Our nation was built from the hard work, sweat and tears of immigrants and those who currently come to our country legally continue to strengthen it both economically and culturally. There is no question though that our country needs comprehensive immigration reform that is tough, fair and practical.

Working across party lines we can find a solution that not only secures our borders and our country, but holds predatory employers accountable for hiring illegal immigrants and fairly addresses the status of the 12 million illegals currently in the United States by putting them on a path to legal citizenship without amnesty.
